The Sarmenti Consortium

The SARMENTI consortium is a unique blend of different complementing Industrial and Research partners from across Europe.

Published on 31 January 2019

The SARMENTI consortium is a unique blend of different complementing Industrial and Research partners from the areas of microelectronics (subcomponent design, optimisation and manufacturing), modules and system design and manufacturing, design for power efficiency, miniaturisation and integration, embedded software, firmware optimisation for power efficiency, cyber-security for the IoT, and agriculture (end-users, advice provider, fertiliser). The composition of the consortium is a well balanced mix of large enterprises (ST-I, ATOS) which have different roles in the project from submodule and modules stakeholder (hardware and software) to product developer with their own research centres, academia (CEA, Tyndall-UCC, CSEM, Teagasc) and small sized enterprises (TS, SPIRO) with special expertise is in agriculture and fertilisation.

partnerDescription and contribution to Objectives
CEA

CEA is Project Coordinator. It will bring and further develop electrochemical sensors. CEA is in charge of the Soil Probe. It will develop low-cost cyber-security solutions for the IoT.

Tyndall-UCCTyndall-UCC is Scientific and Technical Coordinator of SARMENTI with expertise in electrochemical sensors. A separate department in UCC (the Office of Corporate & Legal Affairs) will provide inputs in the legal aspects that is part of SARMENTI workplan.
ST-IST-I is Project Exploitation Manager. It is in charge of the Air Probe, Communication submodules and edge computing. It will develop gas sensors for NH3, N2O and CH4.
CSEMCSEM is SARMENTI system architect with long-time expertise in the development of smart integrated system, both HW and SW, in Industrial and Collaborative projects. CSEM is in charge of the Smart Data Logger and of the Mobile Device Application.
TSWith its expertise in agriculture and fertilisation, TS will assess the end-users' needs and will be experimenter of the SARMENTI solution in fields.
TeagascTeagasc will provide laboratory growth chamber facilities, and field sites for calibration and validation of the SARMENTI solution.
ATOSATOS will implement the BES platform from HW and SW point-of-views, including Data Analytics and Decision Support, as well as data presentation to the end-users.
SPIROAs an end-user, SPIRO brings its expertise in agriculture and user's needs. It will be experimenter of the SARMENTI solution in fields.
